Unlock Savings and Efficiency: Elevate Your Business with Cloud Cost Optimization Services

Being on the cloud does not guarantee a frugal infrastructure. It is a complex architecture which can lead to unplanned expenses and complexities.

Businesses frequently question their cloud investments when large, complicated cloud provider bills accumulate. Many businesses who are trying to control their cloud costs question whether they were appropriate to go to the cloud in the first place. They might face problems to track the cloud spend, conflicts across teams for cloud-saving strategies, over-provisioning, billing complexities and more.

What do we mean by Cost Optimization?

In AWS, Cost Optimization is a distinctive pillar. Cloud Cost Optimization is a set of business practices that involves identifying opportunities to identify opportunities and reduce costs, implement recommended actions, monitor and analyze usage.

Why go for Cost Optimization on AWS?

AWS provides extensive pricing options and service that provides flexibility so that users can effectively manage costs while taking care of the performance needs.

Here are 3 benefits of optimizing costs on AWS:

  1. Flexibility in Purchasing Options – Spot Instances can help you save up to 90% on EC2 costs by taking advantage of unused or reserved EC2 capacity. You can save up to 20% with AWS Graviton based instances and save 10% by right-sizing workloads with AMD processors.
  1. Elevated Agility – With cost optimization, you can scale your applications by freeing up resources. You can match your business needs by automatically scheduling resource provisions.
  1. Streamline Selection – AWS offers suggestions based on many simulations to assist you in selecting the ideal instance type and computing environment size.

6 Best Practices to Optimize your AWS Costs:

1. Recognize underutilized EC2 instances, Right-size to save on costs
Get a report on EC2 instances that are either idle or have poor utilization using AWS Cost Explorer Resource Optimization. By stopping or minimizing these events, you can cut costs. To halt instances automatically, use AWS Instance Scheduler, and utilize AWS Operations Conductor to automatically resize the EC2 instances.

Deploy AWS Compute Optimizer to look beyond shrinking within an instance family and consider instance type recommendations. It offers recommendations for upsizing to eliminate performance bottlenecks, downsizing within or across instance families, and EC2 instances that are a part of an Auto Scaling group.

2. Optimize Amazon S3 usage for cost savings with lower storage tiers
For 30 days or more, examine the object data set’s storage access patterns using S3 Analytics. It offers suggestions for how to use S3 Infrequently Accessed (S3 IA) to cut expenditures. Utilizing Life Cycle Policies, you can automate shifting these assets into a lower cost storage tier. You can also use S3 Intelligent-Tiering, which analyzes and relocates your objects to the proper storage tier automatically.

3. Cut on EC2 costs with Amazon EC2 Spot Instances
Use Spot instances if your workload is fault-tolerant, to cut costs by up to 90%. Big data, containerized workloads, CI/CD, web servers, high-performance computing (HPC), and other test & development workloads are examples of typical workloads. You can launch On-Demand and Spot instances using EC2 Auto Scaling to reach a target capacity. Even if your Spot instances are interrupted, Auto Scaling automatically requests Spot instances and makes an effort to maintain the target capacity.

4. Identify, deactivate unused Amazon RDS and Redshift instances
To find DB instances that haven’t connected in the past week, use the Trusted Advisor Amazon RDS Idle DB instances check. Use the automation methods to shutdown these DB instances to save money. Leverage the Trusted Advisor Underutilized Redshift clusters search for Redshift to find clusters that haven’t had any connections for the past week and have had an average CPU usage of less than 5% for 99% of the previous week.

5. Drive data-based cost optimization with Graviton processors
After switching to Graviton, utilize AWS CloudWatch to track the performances of EC2 instances and Lambda functions. To ensure the infrastructure is operating efficiently, analyze the date including the CPU utilization, response times, and memory consumption. The Lambda function configurations can also be changed, if required, to maintain the best performance at the lowest cost possible.

6. Right Size your workloads with AMD-processors
With EC2 instances powered by AMD processors, customers can perform general purpose, compute intensive, memory concentrated, graphics specific workloads. All of this can be run at substantial costs. Scalable performance for a broad variety of databases comes with AMD processors.
